Distribution of Medicines in Gorkha
As a result of the devastating earthquakes of 2015 many community health posts were damaged or destroyed. Local Nepali government officials asked our partners at Asal Chhimekee Nepal [ACN] to rebuild a number of health posts. So, through INF/UK’s Disaster Relief Fund, our supporters helped pay for the two of them, at Srinathkot and Amppipal. Now you are helping with the distribution of medicines.
Local people are enjoying the benefits of these health posts. But, after a cold winter, in some parts of Gorkha there is now a shortage of essential medicines. Some health posts have completely run out of certain drugs. These include antibiotics and asthma treatments. So, the local Health Department turned to ACN for help again. ACN put together a detailed plan for a project for the distribution of medicines. Then INF/UK provided the money. We don’t want to see people dying from simple winter infections that could respond well to basic treatment.
ACN bought the medicines direct from the manufacturer and volunteers packaged them. Then they were ready to be transported to the District Public Health Office in Gorkha. The medicines were very gratefully received and the team was given a letter of appreciation. There was also a letter of honour for the Pokhara Christian Community [which established ACN], for their role in the rebuilding of the health posts.
Nine health posts will receive the medicines provided. They cover over 8,000 households with a total population of more than 33,000 people.
